               TIME FOR KINDERGARTEN!
Kindergarten is a major milestone for both you and your child! Here are answers to some of the questions you may have as you begin to prepare for this exciting transition.

Is My Child Ready For Kindergarten?
Step into any Kindergarten classroom today and you will quickly see it is very different from when you went to school! Curriculum content, standards, and expecations have changed dramatically over the years. Many of the skills you probably spent your entire Kindergarten year learning are now the readiness skills teachers would like children to have when they enter the Kindergarten classroom. Click here for a checklist of beginning Kindergarten readiness skills.

How do I register for Kindergarten?
2009-2010 kindergarten registration for Dickinson Public Schools for children who will be five years of age before September 1, 2009 will take place February 2-6, 2009 at the Central Administrative Office (444 4th St W). Remember that you will need a certified copy of your child's birth certificate and and an up-to-date immunization record when you register. Call the Central Administration Office (701.456.0002) if you have any questions.

What can I do to help my child be ready for Kindergarten?
Enroll in the Gearing Up for Kindergarten Program! Gearing Up for Kindergarten is a program designed specifically for parents and children to learn all about Kindergarten. Children have an opportunity to experience some of the activities they will encounter in the classroom, while parents have an opportunity to learn how to support their child's transition to school. Gearing Up for Kindergarten is offered through West Dakota Parent and Family Resource Center.
